Traffic slowed by Davenport water main break

A water main break at Eastern and Kimberly Road in Davenport reduced eastbound traffic to one lane and closed northbound traffic at the intersection.

The break was discovered early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012.

Commuters saw lengthy backups northbound and eastbound approaching the intersection.  Detour signs were in place to help drivers avoid the intersection.

Iowa American Water issued a statement asking motorists to avoid the area for the safety of the repair workers.

A boil water advisory was issued for the 25 residential customers and several businesses affected.  The area impacted is along Eastern between Kimberly and East 33rd Street, and includes the HyVee complex, Walgreen’s and Burke Cleaners.

The McDonald’s restaurant at that intersection is on a separate water line and not affected by the boil advisory.
