Bucktown Center for the Arts to host African American art in honor of Black History Month

DAVENPORT, Iowa--In honor of Black History Month Bucktown Center for the Arts will host an exhibit of Black Art, chronicling African American Artist and their work. This exhibit will feature selected artists from 1798 up to the current artists of today. This exhibit is a visual narrative told through the work and lives of historical and contemporary Black Artists. Local African American Artists have also contributed to this visual narrative of “Black Art in America.

The exhibit will be displayed in Bucktown Center for the Arts second floor casement. The exhibit will open February 6, 2013 and close February 28, 2013 and is free to the public.

February 22, 2013, Studio 56 will host the work of the Willie McNeal, a native Midwesterner and Davenport resident. McNeal’s work is influenced by life… life as a musician, life as a family man and unquestionably, life as an African American! From the serenity of his water colored landscapes, to the bold use of pigments in his mixed media abstracts… McNeal’s work is well worth seeing.

Studio 56, located in Bucktown Center for the Arts on the second floor in suite 201-B, will host a “Meet the Artist” reception, Friday, February 22, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00pm.
