Davenport man charged in murder-for-hire scheme
Crime

Investigators say they busted a Davenport man who tried to hire an undercover detective to kill a family member.

Eric Weeks, 36, was charged with solicitation to commit murder, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit arson.

Police said while Weeks was an inmate in the Scott County Jail, he tried to arrange to have a family member murdered and to have a fire set to cover up the crime.  Weeks was allegedly trying to prevent the family member from testifying against him in court.

Police said Weeks communicated with the undercover detective by phone and by letter, and that Weeks offered to pay the undercover detective to carry out the plan.

Weeks was held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash-only bond.
