Local students build robots from Legos | Events
DAVENPORT, Iowa- Five Davenport Community Schools teams will join over 37 teams from the Quad Cities area to compete I the Third Annual FIRST LEGO Robotics Competition held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, in the Putnam Museum, 1717 West 12th Street, Davenport.

#4620 Germ Busters Williams Intermediate School
#6307 Giant Crazy Cow with a Huge Blue-Orange Wood Intermediate School
Kabab with a Bowl of Soup McBoom
#7355 The BaconatoRs Walcott Intermediate School
#9566 Electric Jaguars Young Intermediate School
Approximately 1,000 people are expected at this event. In FIRST LEGO League students deal with real-world science and technology challenges. Teams of students build autonomous LEGO robots that perform a series of missions. This year’s theme for the competition is “Food Factor Challenge.” The idea behind “Food Factor” is to solve a contamination or spoiling problem so that people do not get sick from eating bad food. In order to be successful in the competition, students will use a range of skill sets including applying real-world math and science concepts, creativity, critical thinking, time management, collaboration and communication.
Judges for the competition will be engineers and community professionals from John Deere, Alcoa, and other local businesses.
