IOWA--An Iowa subcommittee considering a proposal to allow medical marijuana use in Iowa won’t advance the bill to the full House of Representatives.
Radio Iowa reports Representative Clel Baudler of Greenfield called the bill an “asinine” idea.
The public hearing on the concept, before a House subcommittee, lasted only 40 minutes before two of the three committee members reportedly killed the legislation.
The move comes a day after Democrats in the state senate introduced a bill that allows certain uses of medical marijuana in Iowa. They introduced the legislation knowing it would probably not get far.
Eighteen states have laws that allow marijuana to be prescribed for medical use.
